Obituary for Alice Ann Conger ("Sandy") Knisely

Alice Ann ("Sandy") Knisely, 91, of Beatrice died at the P.E.O. Home on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. She was born on November 16, 1926, on the outskirts of Loup City, Nebraska, the pride and joy of Clayton Childs Conger and Harriet (Potter) Conger. She graduated from Loup City High School in 1945, attended Nebraska Wesleyan where she received her teaching certificate and then returned to Loup City where she taught Kindergarten in a one room school house. After marrying James Knisely on August 7, 1949, they returned to Wesleyan where she taught Kindergarten and music in Lincoln's Havelock area. They moved to Beatrice in December 1952 and she worked at The Beatrice State Home (B.S.D.C.) and Martin Luther Home (Mosaic) teaching music for several years. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, member of the City Band and worked at the Children’s Library. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and was active in United Methodist Women. She was a founding member of the Beatrice Community Players, acted in many plays, and received the Mary Ellen Morgan award in 1992. In 1998, she and Jim retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas. While in Bella Vista, she wrote for area newspapers and published three books including “Keep Smiling”, “And, Then What Happened, Mom” and “On A Day Such As This”. She enjoyed dancing and playing bridge. Throughout her life, wherever she lived, she brought light into people’s lives with a compassionate, creative, and sharing spirit.

Survivors include her husband, James of Beatrice; one daughter, Nanci (Gordon) Kyhn of Martell; three sons, Michael Knisely of Boulder, CO, David Knisely of Beatrice and Patrick Knisely and husband Walter Walker of West Hollywood, CA; three grandchildren, James Kyhn, Kristopher Kyhn and Noah Knisely; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Clayton “Ned” Conger of Stuart, FL, one sister, Jane (Butler) Shaffer of Burbank, CA and a group of loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Helena Conger.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice with Rev. Mark Schutt and Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. A family prayer will be held at 12:45 P.M. in the library of the church on Saturday. A guestbook for signatures will be available at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Beatrice Community Players. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
