Obituary for Lloyd T. Drake

Lloyd T. Drake, 86, of Beatrice died at The Kensington in Beatrice on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. He was born on May 10, 1931 to Olive and Thurston Drake at White Cloud, KS. He attended school in White Cloud, grades 1-6, moving to different ranches in Kansas and Nebraska. Later, he attended school in Odell and Beatrice. He was baptized at age 16 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice. Lloyd joined the service on August 15, 1947 at the age of 16. He was discharged in October of the same year (for being too young to join). Lloyd rejoined the United States Army in July 1948, serving in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. He married Marian Grace Parde on August 4, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church Chapel of Beatrice with Rev. John F. Streng officiating. He was confirmed on December 21, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Lincoln by Pastor F. Worthman. He retired from the Army in March of 1973. He worked for the Lincoln Post Office and then for the Beatrice State Developmental Center for 28 years. He was active at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with church council, Bible study and Sunday School teacher helper and went on Mission trips to the Mexican/Texas Border. He was also a VFW member and active in the Beatrice Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Marian of Beatrice; three sons, Larry (Margaret) Drake of Omaha, Dennis (Elaine) Drake of Gracemont, OK and Galen (Sonja) Drake of Wichita, KS; one daughter, Marilyn Ditmars of Washington, KS; 12 grandchildren, Nathan (Patricia) Drake of Rosamond CA, Kristi Drake of Omaha, Sara Potey of Omaha, Misti (Rodney) Hively of Lawton, OK, Lori (Michael) Long of Tuttle, OK, Garrett (Crystal) Drake of Liberty, MO, Daniel (Tina) Ditmars of Washington, KS, Mark Ditmars of Manhattan, KS, Jonathan Ditmars of Colorado Springs, CO, Andrew Ditmars of Washington, KS and Kelsey (Justin) Kraft of Burlington, KS and Austin Drake of Los Angeles, CA; ten great-grandchildren, Chloe and Hannah Hively, Savannah Long, Kaleigh Drake, Bryan and Rilynn Drake, Ryan and Olivia Ditmars, Ariella Potey, Ryker Kraft; special friends, David and Carolyn Birkman and their daughter, Emma of Cedar, MN; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Corliss) Parde and Tom Iwand all of Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Arnold) Jurgens and Beverly (Ron) Weiss all of Beatrice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Thurston Drake; two step-fathers, Robert Fischer and Fern Catlin; parents-in-law, Heye and Emma Parde; sister-in-law, Carolyn Iwand; three brothers-in-law, Edwin and Velma Parde, Norman Parde and Dean Drummond.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Gabriel and Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 at the church on Friday. A memorial has been established to Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice, Community food Pantry, Beatrice Lions Club and the family’s choice with Leroy and Shirley Frerichs and Bob and Gwen Steffens in charge. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Nebraska Army National Guard. The body will lie in state from 12:00 noon Wednesday until 9:00 P.M. Thursday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday. The family will meet and greet friends and relatives at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. www.foxfuneralhome.net. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
