Obituary for Virgil Henry Remmers

Virgil Henry Remmers, 83, passed away October 25, 2019. He was born at home the summer of 1936 to Diedrich and Johanna Buhr Remmers. He attended rural schools and graduated from Adams High School in 1953. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959 on the USS Salisbury Sound, a flagship of the 7th Fleet as an engine repairman, and then was transferred to Kodiak Island, Territory of Alaska. He married Kathleen Meta Ann Dorn on June 2, 1957 in the Naval Chapel on Kodiak Island. They returned to Adams where they lived and farmed in the Adams and Cortland areas. He owned and operated Remmers Trucking from 1989 to his retirement. He attended Zion Lutheran of rural Pickrell where he was baptized and confirmed. He was then a member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell where he taught Sunday School and served on the church council. He became a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church when they moved to Wymore. He was a member of the Anderson Post #25 of the American Legion of Wymore. He and Kathleen were “Winter Texans”. He loved country music and enjoyed playing lead rhythm guitar at various music jams.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Wymore; three daughters, Rebecca (Rick) Williams of Lincoln, Ellen (James) Zvolanek of Wymore and Marya Dockery of Lincoln; grandchildren, Cassandra Rebecca (Kalvin) Lonowski, Joshua John Krueger, Jill Kathleen (Austin) Bruns, Jayni Jo (Christopher) Burbach, Andrew James Dockery; great-grandson, Holt Floyd Lonowski; brother, Larry (Darlene) Remmers of Pickrell; three sisters, Marlene Wallman of Beatrice, Ethylene “Lee” Spilker of Pickrell and Kathryn (Ron) Baehr of Beatrice; brother-in-law, George Dorn of Cameron, MO; sisters-in-law, Marlene Dorn of Beatrice and Doris DeVries of Lincoln, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Virgil Andrew Remmers who died in 1990; brothers-in-law, Diedrich Dorn, Donald Dorn, Marvin DeVries, Arthur Wallman and Marvin Spilker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on October 29, 2019 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Wymore with Pastor Suzanne R. Howe officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on
Tuesday. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard and Anderson Post #25 of the American Legion of Wymore. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Wymore Food Bank and Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell with Shirley Martin and Peggy Henrichs in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Sunday from 4:00P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family meeting and greeting friends and other relatives from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Tuesday.. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
