Obituary for Raymond Dorn

Raymond F. Dorn, 92, of Beatrice died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Beatrice Health and Rehab. He was born on January 4, 1926 at rural Beatrice. He was baptized on January 21, 1926 and later confirmed on April 6, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He attended school in Filley and graduated from Filley High School on May 18, 1944. He was married on July 6, 1945 to Anna Schuster at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. They moved to a farm close to Holmesville where they lived until 1950 when they moved to a farm northeast of Beatrice. They were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. Two children were born to this union, Orville and Merle. In 1957, they moved to a farm northeast of Pickrell and became members of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. Raymond held various positions on the Church Council, was a member of the Senior Choir and Lutheran Men in Mission. He always enjoyed farming so it was difficult for him to retire because of his heart condition, leave the farm and move to Beatrice in 1979. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and having coffee with the guys.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Dorn of Beatrice; two sons, Orville (Sondra) Dorn of Lincoln and Merle (Penny) Dorn of Kensington, KS; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret (Garold) Zimmerman of Beatrice; four sisters-in-law, Connie Dorn, Janetta Frerichs, Joanne Ramsey, and Ida Lohmeyer; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ufka and Tena Johnsen Dorn; daughter-in-law, Pam Dorn; three brothers, Alfred (Bernice) Dorn, Harold (Arlene) Dorn, and Melvin Dorn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. Burial will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held 10:15 A.M. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M., Friday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and then Saturday one hour preceding the service at the church. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
