Obituary for Pearl Hortman Bales

Pearl E. Hortman Bales, 84, of Beatrice died Saturday night, August 17, 2019 at her home. She was born on February 11, 1935 at Macon, Georgia. She married Ernest Hortman on September 2, 1948 and they moved to Beatrice in 1958. She was the dining room supervisor at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center for many years. After Ernest died she married Richard Bales on June 5, 1989. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and being a grandma.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Hortman and Ron (Patty) Hortman all of Beatrice, and Richard (Donna) Bales, Jr. of Lincoln; three daughters, Kathie (Dave) Klein of Rising City, Donna (Rob) Lisec of Chicago, and Patricia Hortman; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Roenelle (Bobby) Daniels of Georgia; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Gregory Hightower, her first husband, Ernest Hortman in 1965, her second husband, Richard Bales in 1989, two daughters, Rebecca Nieman and Joyce Maatsch, a great-granddaughter, brothers, W. L. Hightower and Richard Hightower, and sisters, Virgel Hightower, Tina Richey, Pansey Hightower, and Rounette Seales.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
