Obituary for Teda Meints

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teda Meints of Lincoln formerly Cortland on August 28, 2017 at the age of 94 years, 5 months, 3 days.  Teda was the youngest of six siblings born to Thee and Thelka Wallman, on March 25, 1923 near Filley.  Teda moved at a young age to the farm she grew to love southeast of Cortland.  She always talked fondly of growing up in the 30s, when money may have been scarce but there was an abundance of love shared amongst her parents and five older brothers.  A visit with Teda often included a story of hard work and good natured teasing from her dear older brothers.  On April 1, 1944, Teda married Clarence Meints, a young serviceman from Filley.  Love conquers all.  She rode the train without family accompaniment to Fresno, CA to exchange their vows.  The story is that two Army privates were recruited off the street to serve as witnesses.  After a few months together in California Clarence was shipped off to the Pacific Theatre and Teda returned to Nebraska.  Letters were exchanged daily for the next 18 months.  After the war, her lifelong endeavor was farming alongside Clarence and raising their five children.  She was a very faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell.  She loved quilting with the ladies group.  She is a cancer survivor, having battled and beaten twice the disease in the 60s.

Teda was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in January 1994 and her parents, who were tragically killed in a car accident in 1963.  Also preceding her were her brothers, Ehme, John, Thees, Jerry, George, infant brother Thee, five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and grand-daughter Nicole.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses:  Kathy (Jim) Engler and Roger (Jan) Meints all of Lincoln, Paul (Carol) Meints and Rick (Teresa) Meints all of Cortland and Cindy (Les) Lieneman  of Filley; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law, Kathryn Wallman of Beatrice, Emma Meints of Filley and Katie Meints of Adams; one brother-in-law, Lawrence (Mildred) Meints of Beatrice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating.  Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell.  A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on Thursday. The service will give family and friends one more time to reflect on one of Teda’s favorite Bible verses “For where two or three are gathered together unto my name there I am in the midst of them”.  Matthew 18:20   A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Norman and Pat Wallman and Norman and Marilyn Schuster in charge.  The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12:00 noon Tuesday until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Thursday.  Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
