Obituary for Edwin Jr. Daubendiek

Edwin Daubendiek, Jr., 79, of rural Beatrice died at the Beatrice Community Hospital on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  He was born October 29, 1937 in Beatrice to Edwin Sr. and Irma Meyer Daubendiek.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  He attended Blue Ridge Country School and St. Paul’s Lutheran School.  He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1955.  After high school, he worked construction jobs for several years, working on parts of the interstate and Nebraska highways.  Farming was the joy of his life.  He left construction work for the family farming business.  He had hogs and cattle as well as farmed crops.  He instilled a love for animals in his family and valued time spent with his pets and livestock.  He married Alnora Wallman on August 27, 1972.  The couple shared a confirmation verse and it was the scripture used in their wedding ceremony.  “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).”  They lived on the farm northwest of Beatrice where he lived all of his life.  The couple was blessed with two daughters, Denise and Diane.   As a member of Zion Lutheran Church, he was on the Parish Education Committee and served as President on the Church Council.  The Adult Sunday School class was very important to him and he seldom missed in 45 years.  He also enjoyed Dinner for Eight as a way to meet other couples at Zion.  He was a member of the Gideons and the Nebraska Air National Guard.  His hobbies included antique tractors and engines as well as attending tractor shows and flea markets.  He and Alnora traveled on bus tours to places such as Alaska, Washington D.C. and Niagara Falls.  He enjoyed watching Husker sports, specifically volleyball and basketball.  He did handy work around the farm that included making metal planters and yard décor.  He loved showing his grandchildren his farm and taking them for rides on farm equipment and the Gator.

Survivors include his wife, Alnora; two daughters, Denise Work and husband Robert of Fort Calhoun and Diane Dean and husband Michael of Fremont; four grandchildren:  Brady and Blake Work, Dawson and Kendall Dean; one brother, Duane Daubendiek and wife Irene; one sister-in-law:  Dorothy Daubendiek; one brother-in-law:  Wayne Wallman and wife Laurie; many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Sr. and Irma Meyer Daubendiek; one brother, Loren Daubendiek and one niece, Judy Shaneyfelt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating.  Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. at the church on Thursday.  A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Larry and David Wollenburg in charge.  The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12:00 noon Tuesday until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Thursday.  The family will meet and greet friends and relatives from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
