Obituary for Edith B. "Edie" Lenners

Edith B. “Edie” Lenners of Beatrice, NE, passed away at Samaritan Springs in Beatrice, NE, on February 14. 2018. Edith was born in Beatrice, NE, on May 6, 1932, to John P. and Emma (Siefkes) Fritzen. She married Virgil M. Lenners on July 5, 1953, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Edith attended Logan Center (rural school) and graduated from Filley High School in 1951. She was a 4-H club leader and an active member of Luther League where she held several offices. She attended Fairbury Junior College and taught two years at Fairview District 117 (rural school) for two years. Edith was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE. She was a Sunday School teacher as well as Sunday School superintendent. In addition, she was an active participant of the women of the church and also served on the church council. Edith worked in retail at JCPenney's for 27 years.

Edith enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children and was present at many special events—from football games to baseball games to swim meets to dance recitals to show choir competitions to birthday, confirmation, graduation, and wedding celebrations. She enjoyed sewing clothes for the family and she loved to quilt. Her stitches of love resulted in making quilts for each family member, including grandchildren. She was a member of her church quilting social and was a member of the Contented Gals Extension Club. Edith also enjoyed playing cards, Rummikub, and going to coffees visiting with friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, and son, David. Edith is survived by her sister, Clarissa Hall of Beatrice; son, Dan Lenners and wife Jane of Imperial; daughter, Bev Shannon and husband Lou of Omaha; daughter, Colleen Lenners of Omaha; granddaughter, Lindsey Castle and husband Steven of Omaha; grandson, Tim Shannon and wife Alicia of Lincoln; and grandsons Gabe Lenners of Los Angeles, CA, and Grant Lenners of Lincoln; step-granddaughter, Jessica Savine and husband Aaron of Omaha; step-grandson Scott Shannon and wife Dawn of Omaha; great grandchildren include: Dallas, Easton, Karsyn, Khloey, Berkley, Cooper, Jasper, Jaxson, Gracie, and Cole and great-great-grandchild, Parker. In-laws include: brothers-in-law Raymond Lenners (Lee), Robert Lenners (Mae), Eugene Lenners (Velda), Duane Lenners, and Merle Schuster (Millie); sisters-in-law Nelvadeen Schwab (Glenn), Leona Siems (Duane), and Marilyn Koch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice on Monday, February 19, 2018 with Pastor Chuck Bentjen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday at the church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 11:00 A.M. Saturday until 9:00 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday. The family will meet and greet friends on Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and American Heart Association. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements
