Obituary for David Thornburg

David L. Thornburg, 58, of Beatrice died at his home Saturday morning, December 23, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 6, 1959 at Beatrice and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1978. He attended Southeast Community College and studied marketing. He worked at Beatrice State Developmental Center and then J & J Wire in Beatrice from 1991 to 2005, retiring because of poor health. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice and SENGS (Southeast Nebraska Genealogy Society). He enjoyed genealogy, carpentry work, gardening, baking and his dog, Shiloh and was a frequent visitor to the Gage County Museum.

Survivors include his parents, Vern and Arlene Waltke Thornburg of Beatrice; sister, Betty Thornburg of Beatrice; brother, Michael Thornburg and wife Lora of Gretna; niece, Kendra Forsen and husband Johnathan of Herman; nephews, Cranston Thornburg and wife Sarah of Plainview and Trenton Thornburg and wife Lacey of Ashland; great-niece, Brailey Thornburg; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. A family prayer service will be held 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday in the chapel of the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday. www.foxfuneralhome.net Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
